A friend told me that Maura has just been granted US citizenship, according to a Nashville paper. Is this true? If so, congratulations Maura!

:D If so, congratulations! Is Maura able to do a dual-citizenship?

Thanks for all the ye'r best wishes. First, the good news, I still get to keep my Irish citizenship. I can't imagine how I would feel if that was not the case!!! Truthfully when I took the pledge, even knowing this, I still had a sob when I recited the part about giving up allegiance to all foreign governments and potentates. I'm such a sentimentalist.....
The main reason I took out citizenship though, was so I would be able to vote. I have lived in the US for over 20 years, and in that time I have never voted, either here, or in Ireland. As someone who goes on at length about personal responsbility in regards to governments, I was beginning to feel like a fraud. Especially during the last presidential election which was won (or not!) by such a small margin.
Truthfully, I never expected all those years ago that I would have made my home here in the States, so I didn't really give it much thought until the coronation, I meaan, election of Bush the second.
Another reason, and really the most important one , is that I have an american son, and I didn't want to complicate things for him in the event of my demise, or that of Mac's.

So there ye have it. Ye can expect even louder political rhetoric from me at all my gigs!! Be warned.
Love,
Maura.

Well.........congratulations!I can understand why the part about giving up allegiances would bring a pang to your heart. You can love 2 countries though......it's o.k.

Well, congratulations, Maura!

I went through the same process myself about three years ago. I know what you mean about the pledge. I was born in Greece and had lived in Australia (as a naturalized citizen) for 13 years. But, I married a local boy here in the US and I'd lived here longer than anywhere else AND I wanted to vote, so there you go.

Dewey (husband) used to say to me, "It's okay, if anything ever happens, I'll come visit you in jail." Aha!

Now, Maura, how about the process, eh? Mine went on for about three years, during which time my fingerprints "expired" twice. Expired fingerprints?!!!
