There's a great video of Maura with De Danann on YouTube; I posted it on Maura's Welcome page: http://www.mauraoconnell.com/

The title says 1983, but Maura says the film was shot in 1981 or so, when they were working on "The Star Spangled Molly"

Mac and Maura-

This video is OUTSTANDING, what a hoot, I am so feckin' happy this was posted, I am not a fan of MySpace, (just am not), but this You Tube thingy is fantastic, where you can find a video like this. The hair, the look, the film (probably not video??)- - - everything is so much fun; was that ODea's, with its neatly lined-up shelves of the wee dram?

(I found a video on YouTube of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan sitting around a hotel room (I think it was) singing Wild Mountain Thyme (Go Lassie Go), one of my all-time favorite songs, the footage was special it looks like from the early 60's, and they were having a ball with that great song. I loved it.)

Thanks so much for sharing this. I bet Maura's sisters, (the "A"-team", get a kick out of this.

Warm Regards,

Bob

It is kind of cool to see the video from De-Dannon. It is neat to see Maura...at first it looks like it could almost be a younger sister. WHen I say the caption "from just a few years back" I thought it was a mistake, but then I got the sarcasm. (I can be a bit slow).

It is kind of nice to hear Maura do a kind of traditional irish song...kind of like on "wandering home."

Anyhow, looking forward to the new album...the little teashers on this website sound interesting!!

Better with a little age, she is, better in every way!

Thank you for that peek at the past--what a treat!!!!

Seeing the younger Maura in video, reminded me to go back to listen to an old Album, from Van Morrison and the Chieftains, called "Irish Heartbeat" where Maura and Mary Black sang backup to Van on "Marie's Wedding", a traditional Scottish tune. The record was recorded in 1987- - (near in time to the Video)- - released in 1988, and it contains some real trad gems. Besides Mary Black the other backup singer credited on "Marie's Wedding" is June Boyce who I am afraid I don't know of.

Working with Van and the Chieftains is keeping some pretty good musical company for sure.

I wonder if there is a video of MO performing with Van recently in Los Angeles at the awards show.

Old stuff, new stuff, young Maura, older Maura, as Martha Stewart says, "it's all good."

Sorry for the late reply

That is not O'Dea's, and it was shot on 16mm film by the look of it.

Maura says: it's from a series done by Bob Quinn (an amazing filmmaker), called "De Danann's Galway" which aired on RTE back in the day. Most of the scenes in the clip are from Galway City, and Neachtain's pub was the setting for the live singing. She says it was a lovely old pub that wasn't open every day, due to the owner's travelling the world; it was opened up especially for the shoot, and Maura was amazed at the place as she had never been there before. She said the walls were covered with shelves and shelves of port bottles.

Sounds delicious.

Maybe Maura will grace us with more info (or maybe she won't).

Bye
