Under the radar
Class wallflower blossoms
Sadly, Maura O'Connell remains obscure in a music world that usually ignores elegant, emotional adult songs. She has one of those rich, soothing voices laced with drama and pathos. On her latest album, Don't I Know, she delivers another batch of stunning pop-folk tunes, particularly her versions of Mindy Smith's "Going Down in Flames" and Robin Lerner and Tommy Lee James' "Phoenix Falling." Onstage, Ms. O'Connell exudes warmth, quiet charm and enough pipe power to immediately enthrall an audience. But she doesn't tour the area frequently, so don't miss this opportunity.
