Forgot to mention that when I got back to work I found out that my current boss who has been trying to run me out of the company is leaving the OC Register and is moving on to the San Francisco Chronicle where he will continue to ruin peoples lives in another market. Huge sigh of relief! Feel sorry for my friends at the Chronic. Huge S-Storm heading there way. I am open to leaving the paper for a better gig, but I want to leave on my own terms and not run out by a sociopath. I have had 20 bosses in 23 years at the paper. This one was the worst of them all. The newspaper biz aint what it used to be, probably a good time to get out. I love our new owners, just don't think they can change the course of history.

Thanks for the update Pat. That was very interesting and sounds like you had a nice time. (How much vacation time do you get at that job?).

It was great meeting up and if Maura does an occasional show in Nashville, we will definitely try to make a road trip. It would be great to meet up and knock back a few pints.

Berkeley tomorrow! I will take lots of notes and try not to get too emotional. "It's bittersweet More sweet than bitter, Bitter than sweet. It's a bittersweet surrender.

I cant wait to hear a report. I am kind of sad really thinking of it. Mabye she can get back together and form "Tumbleweed" again. And she can play the guitar! LOL

I hope it was a memorable final performance.

11-21, 2013 - Freight and Salvage - Berkeley Ca. - Set 1 - To Be The One - Spinning Wheel - A Far Cry - Poetic Justice - No Place To Hide - Salley Gardens - Shades of Gloria - Blue Chalk - It Don't Bring You - Poor Man's House - Trouble in the Fields - 2nd Set - Anach Cuain - The Weakness In Me - Hay Una Mujer Deseparacida - Feet of a Dancer - Blue Train - Summerfly - Love You In The Middle - Galileo - Isle of Malachy - Time To Learn - Western Highway - The Blessing - Crazy Love

A 24 song stunner! Everything plus the kitchen sink. Lots of first timers with the after show glow. First half highlights - Incredible Poetic Justice, Shades, Blue Chalk, Poor Man's House and a little trouble with Trouble, I love the flubs, most people have no idea but I can always tell especially when Mo gives the oh crap look to John and Don. 2nd set Anach Cuain Mo forgot the Paul Brady verse, huge recovery. Can't blame her for flubbing that one. Can't remember everything. She sang in three different languages for Chrissake! All the a capella stuff was hair raising. Isle of Malachy and Time To Learn were nice surprises. Hadn't heard those in a while. Lots of tears shed in the audience during Time To Learn, absolutely nailed that one. A beautiful Western Highway with Just John and Mo. Blessing and Crazy Love closed out the set with a big sing along for Crazy Love. Great crowd, awesome vibe, windy Berkeley, brief after show hangout and a beautiful picture of a Mo Sandwich, my wife Mo, me in the middle, and Mo the singer extraordinaire.

It's been an incredible run over the last 20 something years. Thanks to Mo and all the guys present and past who created so many sublime moments of music. I know it's not the end, it's just bye for now. Hope to see you down the road again!

Love,

Pat

Thanks for the report, Pat. Sounds like a blast. I hope she does a few more collabs down the road. I hate thinking I wont see her in concert again. I have so many fond memories!

Thanks again
Mike

Are folks able to post here, when I try to post here and/or on fan weblog I cannot copy something I wrote in WORD and copy it over to either one. It always tells me there is an error of some sort?

Maura's show on a chilly Saturday night in Chatham NJ at the Sanctuary Concerts was a loud, lively and fun event. Beginning with a terrific opening set from Greg Trooper, the night was off to a great start. The crowd had energy and Gregg's short set included some of his older material and a lot of his new CD. The songs were all excellent and his intros were funny and interesting. It is always a lot of fun to find out the genesis behind the song. Greg played the guitar and harmonica, when he put on his harmonica he said now his "entire" band was on stage, Funny! (More on Greg's guitar later.)

After 35 minutes or so, the night was turned over to Maura and she did not disappoint. She fed off an enthusiastic room and hit the ground running and never looked back. It pains to think this was near the end of the solo thing, which Maura avoided.
